Bridget Burgess Pushes Hard for Best Finish Yet in ARCA Menards West Series

TOOELE, UT, September 28, 2020 – This year has brought many changes to our normal way of life, for Bridget it was more than just COVID, with her making the decision at the start of the year to focus only on asphalt racing.

This year Bridget has been racing the in the ARCA Menards West Series with her first race at the Bull Ring in Las Vegas back in February. In March, life was put on hold as COVID hit, and travel restrictions were set in place. While this wasn’t ideal for Bridget in her first full year of racing ARCA, in was an understandable decision by the series to put a hold on racing.

Bill McAnally Racing provided BMI Racing a car for Bridget to race in, a steel one-piece body, which is very different to the cars that are racing in the series today. The BMI Racing team consisting of Adam, Sarah and Bridget have been learning together on setting up the car at their race shop located at Utah Motorsports Campus, as well as making the adjustments at the track.

Racing kicked off again for Bridget in the ARCA Menards West Series at Irwindale Speedway back in July, then headed north in early August racing at Evergreen Speedway WA, and Douglas County Speedway OR. Late August the team headed to Colorado National Speedway continually learning and making improvements.

This past weekend the series revisited the Bull Ring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and a track that Bridget was looking forward to going back to. With limited practice, and limited experience within the team they worked hard to get the HMH Construction Toyota Camry handling well.

The green flag dropped the field roared into action, the goal for Bridget to continue to gain experience, and keep pushing hard throughout the race. The team has continued to fight brake fade at each of the races, with same happening at the Bull Ring. At the 15 lap to go mark as Bridget was going a lap down, she was dumped by another racer to deliberately bring out the caution. Bridget collected the car back up and finished the race strong with a career best finish of 7th in the HMH Construction Toyota Camry.

Earlier last week, Bridget had the opportunity to test a Pro Formula Mazda for Mitime Motorsports at Utah Motorsports Campus. The test was put together to see what potential Bridget has for open-wheel racing. Ian Lacy of Ian Lacy Racing not only maintains and race preps these cars, but provided driver coaching and data debrief, providing Bridget with the full experience and understanding the areas of potential improvement.
